Hybrid electric motor and folding wings, from 2019 arrives on the US Transition market, the first flying machine. It is produced by Terrafugia, a company founded in 2006 by some researchers of the Mit of Boston and then sold to a Chinese holding company that also owns Volvo. The two-seater has a flight range of 600 km, flies to a maximum height of three thousand meters and a speed of 160 km per hour. It’s a full-fledged car but to drive it and take it off you need a driver’s license.
Takeoff and landing can only take place in designated areas such as airports but also private properties. Transition was founded by Mit engineers specializing in aeronautics and astronautics, then was bought almost a year ago by the Chinese group Zhejiang Geely, a holding company that also owns the European automotive companies Volvo and Lotus. At the moment the cost of the car taking off has not yet been formalized, in October the pre-orders start. There are other experiments of cars flying, for example in Dubai, and Uber has presented a project for a flying taxi service that should start in conjunction with the Los Angeles Olympics in 2020.
